Biography

Education Background: Dr. Fu Yao graduated from Shanghai Second Medical University with a master's degree in 2002 and began clinical work in ophthalmology. In 2007, she obtained a PhD in Ophthalmology from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. In 2010, she spent one year as a visiting scholar at the Ocular Surface Center in Miami, USA.

Clinical Expertise: She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of various ocular surface diseases and corneal diseases, including dry eye disease, pterygium, conjunctivochalasis, ocular surface trauma, chemical burns, symblepharon, and Stevens-Johnson syndrome, as well as various types of keratitis, corneal degeneration and dystrophy, and congenital corneal anomalies. She is skilled in ocular surface reconstruction procedures such as conjunctival transplantation, amniotic membrane transplantation, oral mucosal transplantation, autologous and allogeneic limbal stem cell transplantation, as well as lamellar keratoplasty and penetrating keratoplasty. In particular, for patients with refractory ocular surface diseases and severe symblepharon, she is adept at using combined surgical approaches to improve appearance while also improving visual acuity. She is also skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of cataract and phacoemulsification surgery; oculoplastic and cosmetic surgery, including double eyelid blepharoplasty, baggy eyelid correction, ptosis correction, eyelid deformity repair, orbital implant placement, socket reconstruction, and lacrimal passage reconstruction.

Academic Achievements: She has published more than 20 papers, 6 of which are indexed in SCI. As the first principal investigator, she has led two National Natural Science Foundation of China projects (ongoing and completed) and multiple other ongoing and completed projects, including key basic research projects of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission. She has received multiple awards, including the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of the Higher Education Institutions Science and Technology Award of the Ministry of Education, the Third Prize of the Chinese Medical Award, the Second Prize of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Third Prize of the Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Award.
